From Friday 6th– Sunday 8th March 2020, we will be holding a 40-hour prayer vigil at Notre Dame de France, NDF, with continuous Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. In these uncertain and challenging times, now more than ever, we need to stand together as Christians and bring before God the Church, our families, nations and the world.
To be able to hold these 40-hours of continuous prayer in the very heart of London is a powerful witness of our Catholic faith and a reminder that nothing happens without prayer.
THE TIMETABLE OF EVENTS DURING THE 40-HOURS, INCLUDING THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION AND VARIOUS STYLES OF PRAYER, WILL BE POSTED HERE IN FEBRUARY 2020.
What is the 40 Hours devotion?
The Forty Hours Devotion is a special 40-hour period of continuous prayer made before the Blessed Sacrament in solemn exposition.
The number forty has always signified a sacred period of time:
– the rain at the time of Noah lasted 40 days and nights
– the Hebrews wandered through the desert for 40 years on the way to the Promised Land
– Jesus fasted for 40 days before beginning His public ministry
The Forty Hours Devotion provides a wonderful opportunity for the spiritual growth of each person and the parish as a whole.
The main intentions of our 40 hours prayer vigil are the Church, the United Kingdom at this challenging time, our families and nations, war-torn areas of the world and much more.
We will have an opportunity to name and display various intentions for prayer.
